Typhoon Gaemi Hits Taiwan and China: Delays Expected

Typhoon Gaemi struck northeastern Taiwan early Thursday, causing severe weather conditions with heavy rain, strong winds, and storm surges. With winds reaching up to 205 kph (125 mph), equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane, the typhoon impacted Yilan County the hardest.

The storm is now moving across the Taiwan Strait and is expected to hit China’s Fujian province later today. This will bring further heavy rain and strong winds to a region already suffering from severe flooding.

In China, Gaemi will likely land as a strong Category 1 or low-end Category 2 hurricane. Fujian province is preparing for the worst, with coastal areas bracing for strong winds and heavy rains expected to spread to southern Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces.

China has already experienced deadly floods and landslides in recent weeks, resulting in mass evacuations and significant damage. This typhoon will add to the ongoing challenges, causing further delays and disruptions.
